From Friend, to Stepsister, to Lover? Part 3

I was stunned. ‘Alyssa…ran away.’ kept ringing in my head.
“Kevin. Are you there?” my mom asked, sobbing still somewhat evident.
“Yeah. I’m just surprised by the news. I’ll be home as soon as possible.”

I hung up the phone, and looked at the clock. It read 10:23.
“So what was that about?” Amanda asked.
“It was my mom. Alyssa ran away.”
Amanda went into complete shock.
“You…you sure?”
“Would I be lying about something like this?”
“No one that’s sane would lie about something like this.”
“Listen. I don’t want to leave you here, but I have to go home.”

I got up and proceeded to get the rest of my clothes that were all around Amanda’s room because of last night and get dressed. While I was getting dressed, Amanda started talking.
“Listen.” Amanda started off. “If you find Alyssa, and she’s still trying to seduce you, then…go for it.” She was stuttering at the last part.
“What?!?!” I said, in surprise. “You actually support me sleeping with my stepsister-to-be, especially when we’re going out again?”
“I’ve seen how she looks at you. And she does want you in that way. I thought I told you that a couple of weeks ago.”
“Are you serious?” I ask, about the first part. “I’ll be cheating on you if I do that. And you know I can’t do that.”
“One, I’m serious. Two, it’s not cheating if I give my consent, which I do by the way. Three, it’s for your family, so I can understand.”
“I hate to be selfish here, but what about me? I’m gonna have a stupid voice nagging my head and making me guilty at the end of all of this.”
“But isn’t fucking Alyssa a little ‘fantasy’ of yours?”
“How did you know that?”
“I didn’t. I just took a hunch and you caved.”
‘Damn it.’ I thought. I then had a realization “Wait. Since you gave me consent to fuck her, if needed, wouldn’t it be safe to say that having a lesbo moment with her would be one of your fantasies?” I said.
“Wha…what are you talking about?” Amanda stuttered. “I don’t think of Alyssa like that.” Her face was turning a shade of light red when she turned away.
“You do think of Alyssa like that. What’s next? Having Alyssa join our ‘little’ escapades?” Amanda didn’t even talk. “I thought so.”
“Can you even blame me? I mean, hello!!! She’s the hottest girl in our grade. And now that we’re practically upperclassmen, basically the entire school. Not to mention that you know I’m bi-curious. Plus who’s the one that jerked off to the thought of her? Hmm.”
“Fine. You got me. Can I at least get dressed?”
“Yeah. And you couldn’t do it while we were talking?” she sarcastically replied.
“Please, tell me more.” I sarcastically replied back.

I was fully dressed, when I faced Amanda, who was getting dressed herself and asked “Do you know what Alyssa does when she gets moody or something?”
‘Wrong way to ask that question, dumbass!!!’ I scolded myself. Alyssa and I never hung out with each other. Sure we might have had a class or two together, but we were never paired into a group together or anything of that sort. We were just familiar to the other, seen at some parties, but never really got too social with each other.
“Kind of. Normally, she’s either walking through the commons or smashing tennis balls on a court. I don’t know which one.”
“Thanks.”
Amanda was fully dressed after that short conversation, and we were both in our clothes from the previous day.
“You want me to walk you to the front door?” Amanda asked.
“No thanks. You don’t have to…” was all I could say before Amanda grabbed my arm, locked it with her own arm, and started walking with me to the front door.
“Looks like I don’t have a choice do I?”
“Nope.” she said, as she leaned in closer.

We got to the door, and Amanda released her “grip” on my arm and turned to face me.
“Thanks for staying with me last night.”
“No problem. Anything for you babe.” I pulled her in closer and gave her a little kiss on the lips. “I guess I’ll talk to you later.” I said, after breaking the kiss.
“Yeah. Now get your ass back home.” she said, punching my arm playfully.
“Ow. Jeez, with you bullying me, I was actually thinking of going home anyway.” I said, jokingly. We laughed a little at what I said. “Like I said, I’ll talk to you later.”
“OK. Talk to you later then. I love you.”
“Love you too.”

I left, and got a little vibe from Amanda. The kind that was basically said ‘If you do anything to break her heart, I’ll be sure to kill you and burn your body.’ I shuddered at that thought. I drove back home and got there about 20 minutes later. I got back and after entering the front door, I started to hear sobbing coming from the kitchen. I just walked into the kitchen, and see that both my mom and my soon-to-be stepfather either wiping tears, sobbing, or trying not to cry and comfort the other. The truth was, I wanted to get to the bathroom, and at least get rid of all the sweat, and everything else that was on my body, from last night. Before I could get to the stairs, I was caught by my soon-to-be stepdad.
“Kevin.” He yelled.
‘Crap.’ I thought. I went back to the kitchen, not knowing what to expect, other than the whole “Where were you? Why didn’t you call?” kind of situation.
“Did you have anything to do with Alyssa running away?” he asked.
“No. Not at all.” I replied. I didn’t know why she would do something like this.
“I don’t care whether you have something to do with this or not…” he started.
“If you don’t care whether I had a role in this, then why did you bother asking?” I interrupted. I proceeded to leave, until he grabbed the back of my shirt, and dragged me to a different room.
“Look. I’m gonna tell you this once, so listen.” He then pinned me to the wall. “There’s gonna be some big consequences if my daughter isn’t back here safe and sound.”
I winced back in fear. “Wha…what kind of consequences?” I asked, in fear. I was so afraid that I was about to pee my pants.
You see, Alyssa’s dad is built like a brick shithouse.
“You’ll see.” was all he said, before he released his grip.

After he left the room, I scrambled out, trying to rush upstairs, until I was called out by my mom.
“Yeah mom?”
“We need to talk for a moment.” She got up and dragged me into the living room area and pushed me on the couch.

“How can you be so stupid?”
“What are you talking about?”
“I mean with you and Alyssa. I mean it’s completely obvious that she wants to be with you. And not in the brother-sister way.”
“How’d you find that out?”
“She’s been trying to get you alone with her since they moved in. And you just had to pick up extra shifts or go to the gym or do something that basically alienates her.”
“Do you really trust two teenagers, who are practically horny 24/7 to be home alone? Without parental supervision?”
“You two are old enough to watch out for each other. Plus it gives you someone to be with since you broke up with Amanda.”
“Two things. One: Really? You’d really trust your soon to be stepdaughter to be home alone with your son, while both you and her dad are at work? When she’s ready to pounce on your son, and rape him at a moment’s notice. And two: Amanda and I got back together. So I don’t see why I’d have to be with Alyssa in that way. I just see her as a little sister.” I told her, somewhat angry, and somewhat lying at the last part.
“For starters, it’s not rape if you want it. And two, what do you mean that you got back together with Amanda?” I kept silent. “Did something happen that I’m not aware about?”
“Kinda why Amanda was here yesterday.”
“Guess that’s why Alyssa was a little moody during dinner last night.”
“Moody? Why would she moody?”
“She was on a minor mood swing. Then she left to her room, and didn’t come out all night. I was gonna ask if she was fine this morning, but her room was empty when I opened her door.”
“And you think I had something to do with this…how?”
“Cause you’re always trying to get away from her since she moved into this house.”
“Do you even know why?”
“Let’s say I don’t.”
“She’s been coming on to me ever since they’ve moved in. And whenever you two haven’t been in the house, or when she thinks that her…how do I put this lightly…actions can’t be seen, she’s been coming on to me.”
“Well how else is she supposed to get your attention?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean it’s pretty obvious how she feels about you. All she wants you to do is to at least notice her, and you act completely oblivious to it.”
“I kinda have to. I mean, it’s incest for me to have those kinds of thoughts about her.”
“Please, tell me more.” my mom said, sarcastically.
“Stop shitting around with me mom. You know as well as I do that anything that happens between me and Alyssa is considered incest.”
“It technically isn’t.”
“Don’t give me the whole ‘you two aren’t blood-related’ argument bullshit. She’s practically a sister, so it’s still considered incest.”
“It’s a gray area. Truth be told, I don’t consider it incest, since you two aren’t blood-related. Others, however, would. And if you do want to sleep with her, well, I don’t know about her dad. But I’m giving you my consent.”
“You don’t get it. I don’t want to do that with her.”
“Then why would something like this be in your room?” she asked, tossing a picture at me. I caught it and looked at it. It was a picture of Alyssa completely naked on her bed, and in a seductive pose. My face went crimson red at the sight of the picture. The truth was, I found that picture about three or four days ago, and I put the picture between my mattress and box spring. Only thing was, I forgot I put it there while I was trying to think of good hiding places. But since I saw the picture, I had a tendency to blush like crazy whenever I saw it.
“You went through my room?!?” I asked, vehemently.
“I went to do your sheets when I found something on the floor. I picked it up and found this. I know you liked her before, but this is just low.”
“Look!!! I do not, nor do I ever, take nude pictures of others. Especially not of girls that I like or used to like.” I practically yelled, in anger.
“So you admit it!!!” my mom yelled.
“Fine!!! I admit it. I liked Alyssa. Happy?” I said.
“Quite, actually.” She said, with a smile of victory on her face. “And another thing. You might want to cover the tent.”
I look down to see that I had a tent forming in my pants. “Mom.” I yelled. “You’re not supposed to look at that region of your own son. It might have been reasonable when I was like 1 or 2, but not when I’m 16. That’s definitely incest.”
“I know. You act as if I don’t know what I’m doing at work.” You see, my mom’s an attorney at a local law firm. “Not to mention that I already know that Alyssa’s the one who put the picture in your room.”
“I know that. But how did you find out?”
“Her laptop. Some people should really get rid of evidence. But in this case, I’m somewhat glad that she didn’t, since it also detailed what she planned.”
“What? So it means that you know where she is?!” I asked.
“Yes. But I think that you might want to read it, though.” She said, handing me Alyssa’s laptop. I opened the laptop cover, and it turned on immediately. ‘Thank god she doesn’t have a security lock on it.’ I thought. I went through her computer and found that she had written a ‘runaway’ letter on it.

To Whom It May Concern:

If you are reading this, then you must have found out that I’m missing. Don’t bother looking for me, because I don’t know if I’ll ever be coming back. Daddy, I love you, and I’ll always be your little girl, but this is something I need to do. Mom, please take good care of Daddy I know that he’s happy with you, and please tell him to live on for me. Kevin, I don’t know why you’ve been ignoring me since we’ve started living together. I’ve been typing this with tears in my eyes, but I hope that if someone finds this, it’s you, Kevin. We may never see each other again, but I just want you to know that I love you; more than what siblings should normally love each other, and more than just a friend. We may not be blood-related siblings, but I’ve always have loved you and I always will.

I just want to thank you three for giving me everything I’ve had until now. But now it’s time for me to start anew and leave my old life. Don’t bother finding me.

I was stunned to read that. To say that I wasn’t broken down to tears would be outright ridiculous. ‘Why did I have to push her away?’ I thought, feeling guilty that I was the main reason that she ran away. I was there for about half an hour, grieving in my own self-pity, until my mom basically smacked the crap out of me.
“When are you gonna stop wallowing in self-pity? How about you do something about this and grow a pair, will you?” my mom said. My mom wasn’t that conventional, but then again, her going against the norm when it came to raising me, she wanted a self-sufficient kid that actually had a pair while maintaining a welcoming home.
As insulting as it was, it did work. “You and your insults, mom. If I didn’t know any better, that would constitute as child abuse.”
“Shut your smart mouth up, and go find her already.”
“I will, once I find out more about this whole situation on her computer.”
“And what makes you think that she would have more evidence?”
“How’d you become an attorney again?” I asked, sarcastically. She just scoffed at me and left the room while I smirked. As you can tell, I have a relationship that I can best define as a love-hate kind with my mom. Though the hate is mostly done in a joking manner. I looked through the files on Alyssa’s laptop to find some more things about where she ran away to, seeing as how something like this had to be planned before it was executed. After about another ten minutes of searching through files, I found what I needed. It was in her Internet history.
‘A tennis court. Of course she’d go there before attempting to do anything.’ I thought. I copied the address of the court before I went to shower. And man, did I reek.

After showering, I changed into a pair of cargo shorts and a red t-shirt. I left and set up the GPS so that I can get to the address of the tennis courts that she went to. I drove a silent 30 minutes to the court, before parking the car.

I found Alyssa on the tennis courts at a court near town borders. It was right by some shrubbery with a lake at the bottom of the hill. I took a breath of relief, knowing that she was safe. She was wearing a dark blue tank top and black shorts that went down to the middle of her thigh. She also had a couple of tennis balls and a racquet on hand. I started to walk toward the fence. When I got to the fence, and opened it, well, I was in for a little surprise.

“Who’s there?” she screamed, looking at the fence. I didn’t say anything. She tossed a ball into the air, and smashed it towards me. I decided not to move, and it was bad. The ball hit my chest and I lost my breath for a second. ‘Bad move’ I thought, as I stopped moving to regain my breath. I figured that I was making her angry, and that she didn’t want to see me.

“Why the hell are you here?” Alyssa said, with venom in her voice.
“To make amends.”
“Bullshit!!!” she screamed. “I don’t care what bullshit excuse you have. Just leave me alone. I know that you don’t want me around, so get out of here. I don’t want to see you ever again.”
I was hurt when she said that. I figured that a part of her didn’t mean it, but it still hurt nonetheless.
“Look. I don’t care whether you hate me or not, but all I want to do is make amends.”
“And how the hell did you find this place?”
“Let’s just say that you really need to add more security into your laptop. Kinda easy to get in without any.”
“You went through my stuff?!”
“When your mom’s an attorney, it’s kinda easy to find evidence. Especially of something preplanned.” I started to walk towards her again.
“Get away from me.” She started to yell, as I got closer. She tried to run, but there were three things that she didn’t factor. One, I was quicker than her and stronger if I needed to use force, which I hoped didn’t occur. Two, my car was locked, so I can at least gain a couple of seconds when gaining on her should she run in that direction. And three, losing her footing since we were on a clay court. Well, she tripped over a couple of rocks while she was trying to get away from me. She braced herself for the fall, expecting a good amount of pain. But the pain never came, because I caught her before she could face-plant onto the ground. She was surprised that I caught her.

“Why didn’t you just let me fall?”
“I can’t let you get hurt, now.”
“Let me go.” She said, trying to squirm out of my arms. I loosened enough to turn her around so that we were face to face before tightening it again. How I managed to do that was a miracle.
“No. Not until you at least hear what I intend to say.”
She stopped struggling for a moment, thinking that I’d release her after I tell her what I needed to say. “I’m listening.”
“I know you’re sick of me apologizing, and I know I’m sick of hearing myself apologize repetitively. But right now, I definitely know I’m sorry.”
“Where have I heard that before?”
“You don’t know how sorry I am.”
“I bet.” She said sarcastically.
“I’m being honest. Plus, everyone was worried about you. Your dad, my mom…even me.”
“As if. I can understand my dad and your mom. But you? Give me a break.”
“I really was.” I said. I was almost at the point of crying. “If something happened to you, I don’t know what I would do. I just couldn’t forgive myself.”
“As if. You just want to save your own ass.”
“Kind of. But saving my ass is not as important as getting your ass back home, safe and sound.”
“Like I said before, as if. I’m not going home.”
“Alyssa. Stop acting like a spoiled brat and let’s go home.”
“No. I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“You’re never around. How can I be with my own ‘stepbrother’ when he’s never around? I swear it’s like you don’t even want me in your life.”
“That’s not true.”
“Then why are you never around?”
“It’s just that I’m trying to make a little extra by working other people’s shifts. And, well, I want to save up some vacation days. The week or two that our parents go on their honeymoon, I’m gonna take that week or two off assuming everything goes right. Well, everything else.”
“What do you mean by everything else?”
“Well, I didn’t mean to ignore you. It’s just that, well, after working almost all day, well, including workouts, it really drains you. And all I wanna do after coming back home is sleep. Can you blame me?”
“I guess you have a point. But what exactly do you plan to do with that time off?”
“Spend it with you, obviously. I mean, just think about it. The two of us, home alone while the parents are off on their honeymoon. Maybe have some parties.” The two of us just chuckled at the last point. “More importantly, it will give us the perfect time to be together. Well, not in that way.” ‘Unfortunately.’ I added, in my thoughts. She looked sad at the last part. “But at least the two of us will be able to get some time to each other in the end, though. Right?”
“I guess. But what about the two-a-days at the gym?”
“I was trying something different with my workouts. And two-a-days really do a number. I think I’m just gonna go back to runs in the morning. Honestly I just crash after the workouts.”
“I can tell. But…”
“Hm. But what?”
“But what about Amanda? She’s well, you know, and…”
“I’m just gonna interrupt and say this. I know you can’t see it right now, but the truth is that I’m scared. Scared shitless.”
“Why would that be?”
“I got your best friend pregnant AND you ran away because of me.” I let go of Alyssa, but surprisingly, she didn’t run. “I’m…I’m not ready. I’m not ready to be a father yet. I’m not some kind of superhero who can make everyone happy or help everyone out. I’m just…I’m just me. A 16-year old who knows next to nothing about planning ahead, and ended up fucking himself over and took away the potential that his on-and-off girlfriend had of being successful. FUCK!!!”
I sat on the ground and was holding back tears from my angry rant, to no avail. “Fuck!!! Why do I have to fuck everything up?!?! Everything’s going right for once, and I always fuck everything up. What the heck is wrong with me?”
The next thing I knew I felt a pair of arms around my neck, and saw Alyssa’s dirty blonde hair.

“Everything’s going to be alright. No need to worry.”
“No need to worry? No need to worry? Hell yeah fucking right. I can’t do shit to save my damn fucking life. And on top of that, I practically screwed everyone over. I mean, what kind of guy pushes away his own family? Or people who are gonna be family for Christ’s sake? What the hell am I supposed to do? I can’t deal with all this shit. I’m not even 18 yet. Damn it!!! I royally fucked up this time.”
“This time?”
“Not surprised. I fucked up so many things. But I’ve never fucked up this bad in my life. Not since back then. And even then wasn’t as bad as this. Not by a longshot.”
“What happened back then?”
I took a deep breath. “It was back a long time ago. I think it was before my parents divorced. I was like 4 or 5 back then. I don’t remember most of it. All I remember is doing something stupid, then my parents argued, then a couple years later, they divorced, and my mom got custody of me.”
“What’d you do?”
“I don’t remember exactly. All I remember of it is that it was something stupid and it got my parents divorced. You can kind of tell where it goes from there.”
“Kevin. Everything wasn’t your fault. Like you told me before, everything happens for a reason. Maybe everything that happened back then was meant to happen because of things right now. I mean, we wouldn’t be siblings in about a week or two if our parents never got divorced.”
“I guess you have a point there. But…”
The next thing I knew, I was on the ground, and my head was hurting. Both my cheek and the back of my head were hurting like hell.
“What the hell was that for?”
“Cause you’re just moping around and not doing anything about it. The Kevin that I…the Kevin that I admired wasn’t afraid of anything. He would have went into everything without hesitation. He went into our new sibling situation and handled it perfectly. Just who the hell are you?”
“I’m still Kevin. Your stepbrother-to-be in about a week or two.”
“No. You’re not the same. You’ve changed since then. Just look at yourself!!!”

I went down to the lake nearby, and one of those epiphanies that occur like in a TV show happened.
“My God, what the hell happened?” Though I was a bit more chiseled due to my workouts, I still looked like hell. Bags under my eyes, paler skin, signs of over-exhaustion, and a face that basically said ‘get the hell out of here’ as opposed to one that was borderline happy-go-lucky and welcoming.
“You haven’t been the same. Not since a couple of weeks ago.”
“Yeah. The past couple of weeks have been complete hell.”
“I can tell.”
“I’ll get back to normal once we get home. Speaking of which, let’s get back before they get even more pissed.”
“Why would you say that?”
“Well, your dad, well, I’d rather not say the punishment.” She chuckled. “What’s so funny it? He’s built like a brick shithouse.”
“Well, you haven’t been slacking off with your workouts either. If I didn’t know any better, you might get a six-pack by the time we go back to school.”
“Let’s not get too far. I’m just trying to keep in shape.”
“You usually go in once a day. And now, you’re going in at least twice. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re trying to impress a certain someone. And I know someone is definitely impressed.” She made a meow sound after.
“More like have somewhat of a chance if the brick shithouse of a person you call a dad decided to beat the living shit out of me.”
We laughed for a couple of minutes. I broke the laughter.
“How about this? Let’s just have a little us time. Me and you. I’ll cancel anything I have tonight, and we can have a night of sibling bonding. Just the two of us.” I told her
“I’d…I’d love that.”
“I know that I haven’t been that good of a brother, and I can’t apologize enough for that. And I’m not looking to apologize. I’ve already did enough of that. But all I need to say is mmph” I tried to say, but I was interrupted…by Alyssa!
Alyssa kissed me. To say that I was completely shocked was an understatement. I mean, Alyssa!!! The girl that practically gave me boners at will. Well, other than my on-and-off girlfriend Amanda.
‘Wait. I’m cheating on Amanda, with Alyssa of all people!!! But I’m enjoying this? What’s going on?’ I thought. ‘Am…am I…am I having second thoughts about my relationships? This is definitely not my first kiss, but it’s the best one I’ve experienced.’
I returned the kiss, after being in a state of shock for a couple of seconds. After about a minute, we broke apart, needing air. The two of us were left breathless after the kiss. I then remembered what my mom told me when I first started dating.

Flashback:

I went downstairs to find my mom in the kitchen. I was about to ask Amanda out. Only thing was, I was nervous as hell. I couldn’t stop thinking about her since we worked on that project for English class. We’ve even went to each other’s houses to work on the project. Both my mom and her parents teased us on going out together. Of course we both blushed wildly when they made their accusations. I knew that she was good-looking before, but I never really noticed until around the time we completed the project. We still hung out together after we completed the project, but we were both nervous around each other. I needed advice on asking her out and a potential kiss. It’s kind of like she replaced what I thought about Alyssa in my head.

I entered the den and sure enough, my mom was there paying the bills.
“Hey mom.”
“What?”
“I just had a question.”
“About what?”
“Well…it’s about dating.”
“Aw…does little Kevin like a girl at school?”
“Mom, quit it! I’m 14 years old now. I’m not little.”
“Jeez, Kevin. Can’t you take a joke every once in a while?”
“Not with a somewhat sarcastic attorney of a mom.”
“Now you shut your mouth up.”
“Can I at least ask the question?”
“Sure. Fire away.”
“When you were dating dad, how did you know that you wanted to be with him at that time?”
“I guess it was when I kissed him.”
“What about the kiss?”
“They’ll be special if they leave you breathless. If you leave them breathless as well, then the relationship will be worthwhile.”
“And if they leave you breathless every time?”
“Then you’ve found your soul mate.”
I just stared at her blankly as she started to daydream about her current boyfriend.
‘Oh great. There she goes into La-la Land about her new boyfriend again.’ I thought.
“Uh…mom, this isn’t exactly a good time to go into La-la Land about your new boyfriend.”
“Fine. Anyway, who is this girl you’re trying to ask out? Could it be Amanda by any chance?”
“No. Just a person that I know.” I immediately fired back.
“Oh. So it is Amanda then?” I blushed while keeping silent. ‘Kevin and Amanda, sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.’ my mom sang.
“Mom.” I groaned.
“Oh relax. If you really want to know something, just ask her out. I’m sure she feels the same way about you.”
“And how would you know?”
“Let’s just say it’s a woman’s intuition.”
“Good grief.” I groaned, seeing as how my mom used that ‘unknown’ excuse for keeping something secret.

End Flashback

‘Is Amanda the one I end up with? Or is it Alyssa? Damn it. Why does this have to be difficult?’ I thought.
“Whoa. Where did you learn to kiss like that?”
“I don’t know. It…it was actually my first kiss.” Alyssa said, shyly.
“Could’ve fooled me.” I said. She looked away. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s…just…it’s just that I wasn’t…well, the first.” She started to blush.
“What are you saying?”
She took a deep breath. “The truth is, I’ve liked you for a long time.”
“How long?”
“Probably since a couple of months after you started going out with Amanda. When we were talking about you, and…”
“Wait. You two were talking about me?”
“Well, yeah. We’re girls, if you didn’t know.” She said, in an as-a-matter of fact tone. “Anyway, she loved how you were never pressuring her on anything. And when I saw you two together, I kinda saw why. I even thought about me being in her place sometimes.”
“I never knew that you were the jealous type.”
“Am not!!!” I just laughed.
“Since we’re confessing here, there has been something I needed to say.”
She looked at me, with a questioning look in her face. “What would that be?”
“The truth is, I’ve always had a crush on you. Since the beginning of high school. But then that stupid project in English class freshman year happened and I met Amanda.
