Introduction:
I’ve always found that the kinds of people you meet in places you don’t belong are the best kind of people, and she was no exception. I found myself that lonely Thursday evening at a ritzy environmental awareness charity event in downtown New York City; the kind of event where rich people come to throw their money at charities to make themselves feel less bad about their wealth. I was honestly there because I love to dress up and mingle with the rich and famous.
I was wearing a black suit with a white shirt, black bowtie, and gold pen in my pocket. I fit in all right, but I still didn’t feel entirely comfortable due to my lowly economic status. She was awkwardly shuffling about on the busy sidewalk, seemingly looking for a cab. Without thinking, I found myself approaching her. “Is there something wrong, Miss?” I asked innocently.

I walked her around the side of the large building to the parking lot and led her to my car, a red Ferrari 308. I opened the door for her and let her in. “Oh another one of the rich types?” she asked with conviction.
“Believe or not, this car cost me less than fifty thousand dollars. It’s from the 80’s,” I said with a slight chuckle. Her feisty attitude was cute in a way. I got in the car and started it up, appreciating the smooth purr of the engine. “Where are my manners?” I ask myself. “I have you here in my car and I haven’t even introduced myself. My name is Christian,” I state as I offer her my hand.
She shakes it. “You mean like Christian Grey?” she asks with a chuckle. Suddenly, she turned beet red. “I’m sorry, that was rude,” She said awkwardly.
I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Exactly like that,” I said with a sly grin. She looked taken aback and flushed even more, but she didn’t comment on it. She just gave me her address and we started off.
After a few moments of awkward silence, she spoke up. “My name is Sophia, by the way.”
“Greek for wisdom,” I pondered aloud. “Were your parents Greek or just fond of the name?”
“Actually, my father was Hispanic and wanted me to have a Hispanic name. My mother was as white as they come, so she made the name a little more American. My full name is Sophia Camilla Vasquez,” she explained.
“Such a beautiful and important sounding string of names,” I commented.
She turned a little red again. “Thank you. So, what do you do for a living?” she asked with genuine interest.
“I’m the CEO of Grey Enterprises,” I say seriously.
The look her face was priceless. “What the hell are you talking about?”
I gave her a sly smile. “Just teasing you, my dear. I’m a high-school teacher.”
“What were you doing at a fancy event like that?”
“Enjoying the atmosphere,” I stated simply. “How about you?”
“I’m an environmental engineer. I attend all of those kinds of events.”
“Then, why did you storm out?”
“The man I was arguing with had just said that it’s cute how people actually care what happens to the Earth after we’re dead, so I tore him a new one.”
Again, I laughed. She was adorable. “What’s so funny?” she asked, sounding offended.
“I admire your spark, Sophia,” I said cryptically. Again, she blushed.
By now, we had arrived in front of her apartment. I got out of the car and opened the door for her. I led her up the small set of stairs up to the door. I grabbed her shoulders and gave her cheek a quick kiss. “It was a pleasure meeting you, Sophia. Shall I see you again soon?” I asked.
“Well, I’m free for breakfast on Sunday,” She said shyly. I turned away from her and started off. “Wait…” she called out.
“What is it?” I asked.
“What did you mean when you said ‘exactly like Christian Grey?” she asked uncertainly.
I didn’t reply to her. I just gave her a sly smile, got in my car, and left, leaving her frustrated on her doorstep.
That Saturday, I stopped by early in the morning to pick her up for some breakfast. I rang her doorbell and she answered immediately, as if she was waiting for me. She was dressed casually, as was I. “Hello, Christian,” she greeted me cheerfully. “Come on in!”
