“You are really anxious about getting to be near Maria for an evening, aren’t you?” Ronja teased. He shrugged nonchalantly, but she could tell that her words had hit him squarely. “Maria will be here by seven o’clock, but I need to do some studies before that,” she continued.
“Thanks. Seven, then I know,” he said and then hesitated. “You going to do your hypno stuff?” he asked.
John was referring to Ronja’s use of self hypnosis to aid her studies. It was something that she had learned from her now dead mother. You could rapidly learn lists of facts if you were in a hypnotic state and even though Ronja was still an amateur in the craft she had got hang of the basis.

“See you at seven then,” John said and left the room. Ronja closed the door behind him and regretted that she had no key to lock the door.

Currently Carol was away in England working for a couple of month, but the family still defaulted to English even though John had mastered Swedish well enough after living in Sweden since he was ten.

She also brought forward an analog tape that had a long silence and the wake up key phrase at the end. This tape was the backup in case the computer malfunctioned. Finally finished with the preparations she pushed play on both devices and started to mumble the nonsense Latin like phrase that her mother had invented to make it impossible that anyone would ever say the hypnotic phrase by mistake.

Today the city had expanded and the suburb of Bromma now enclosed the Beckomberga area totally. Still the actual hospital had remained mostly untouched since it closed down in 1995. From Ronja’s research she knew the western part of the hospital, named Stora Kvinns was presently used to evacuate hospitalized old people when their normal hospital needed to be rebuilt. The eastern part named Stora Mans on the other hand remained untouched.
Stora Mans had held male persons, and for years there had been talk about converting the building to offices without anything happening. It was quite odd that this part of the old hospital had remained untouched since most of the other houses had been converted to offices and apartments. Recent talk about how the rebuilding finally might be started had convinced Ronja and Maria that they needed to act if they wanted to see the place before it was gone.

“I thought this to be safe,” John objected, hesitation filling his voice.

“You are Ronja’s brother and worry about getting caught,” Maria said and burst into laughter.
“No, I do not,” John responded with a red face. “I just assumed that you would have checked what motion connectors that are active before we walked below them.”
“I asked around on the Internet and more than a couple of them were active in July. Naturally there is not any public information from the guards about what motion detectors that are working. Sooner or later we will need to run when guards appear. Hopefully they have other things to act on during an autumn night like this,” Ronja said.
