The next day, JP found himself in his cabin on top of his sleeping bag. He slowly got up to get his bearings, then carefully made his way to the nearby table. On the table was a letter, addressed to him, in beautiful, clean, and simple penmanship.

The first words, “Dear John…”

“Oh no,” JP thought to himself. He received a “Dear John” letter. He decided to put the letter aside and complete the rest of his wake-up routine.

JP reverted back to his normal routine. First stop, the lavatory. His IBB with its pressing need. “Was it only yesterday?” he thought to himself as he relieved himself and relived the last 24 hours. After he was done he made his way to the sink, set up a mirror and was shocked to see his bloodshot eyes starting back at him.

Continuing his routine, JP inserted tinder and firewood into the stove. Soon the stove was hot enough to boil water for his coffee. He grabbed his coffee supplies, started a pot of water boiling on the stove, and set-up his drip filter for his cup of coffee. He rummaged around and decided to snack on his trail mix for his breakfast. When the water was sufficiently hot, he poured his coffee and ate his makeshift breakfast in silence.

After a few minutes the caffeine and high energy mix worked its magic and JP felt more awake and ready to tackle the day. JP carefully cleaned up after breakfast. No one wanted an ant infested cabin because the previous occupant was messy. One young couple was nonchalant about their hygiene and left a mess for the next family. The couple was subsequently blacklisted and told to rent a regular hotel with maid service.

After washing the dishes, JP pumped some water into a basin, then washed the sink and wiped the table. His rubbish and coffee grinds were thrown into a garbage bag and stored in his car to be disposed at home.

After running out of excuses and delaying tactics, JP sat down at the table to read the letter.

The penmanship was beautiful and firm, reflecting a person experienced and strong, with a vibrant personality. JP immediately knew Gaia wrote the letter.

Dear John,
You have enriched our lives with your presence. Starshine, Sunshine, and many others deeply appreciated the depth and dexterity of your talents as well as your friendliness and charm.

Due to the nature of our business, though legal, we must keep its location a secret. By the time you read this letter we will be well on our way home. Please do not attempt to find us, it is for our safety we keep the location secret.

We do hope we can remain on a friendly relationship. We will be back here to celebrate the next solstice.

We all wish you peace and fulfillment in this age of Aquarius.

Gaia

JP mechanically and carefully folded the letter and put it away with the rest of his belongings. He walked down to the cove and only saw the waves gently washing all vestiges of the previous day’s activities. Returning to the cabin, JP numbly packed his belongings, cleaned the cabin, refreshed the insect baits, and secured the cabin. Though he had a few more days left on his vacation, he knew he would not be able to rest after that wild adventure.

JP retraced his route home. He stopped at the same rest stop and found the parking lot empty. When he went in, he saw the stall with the glory hole, confirming it wasn’t a dream. After relieving himself, he continued uneventfully towards home.

A couple of days after returning home, JP had a sore throat and felt a sharp pain when he pissed. Concerned about these symptoms, JP went to his doctor. Although dreading the lecture he would receive, he knew it was prudent to see the doctor promptly.

The medical visit was uneventful and he did receive the lecture. The doctor took a couple of cultures and said he would contact him with the results.

A couple of days later, JP was asked to see the doctor about his results. JP related well with his doc and they would sometimes joke with each other. After a short wait the doctor came in. He had a wry smile on him and lightly clapped his hands.

“Congratulations Mr. Finch, you have a routine case of gonorrhea. Fortunately this strain can be treated with a shot of ceftriaxone and an oral regimen of azithromycin. The nurse will come in and give you your shot and I’ll prescribe the medication for you. What I am surprised, however, is that you have an early case of thrush. It is a yeast infection in your throat, very unusual in healthy men.”

JP looked dumbly at his doctor and silently mouthed …
