I was stunned to say the least. I re-read the email again. This floored me. My head began to make mental lists of things. We need a complete financial look at all the companies. We need to hire a press secretary or public relations firm. We should probably think East Coast, West Coast having a residence in both locations with a thought to a third one in the Midwest.

We should assemble all the HR people to take stock of our staffing strength as well as our potential for management, should we lose some in the transition.

Jill dropped the paper and we headed out of the room to get to our bedroom. I grabbed my phone to see why it went to voicemail. I had forgotten to put it on the charger, and it had shut off. I grabbed Jill’s, which also had shut off due to no charge.

I pulled my back pack out of the closet and literally threw things in the bag. Jill was doing the same thing.

I saw Tina walk pass the door, Jill summoned her into the bedroom. She explained the circumstances and told her to get packed as we were leaving in a few minutes. Tina looked confused. Jill asked for Tina’s phone, which she had to go get from her bedroom. Again, it was dead. Did everyone forget to put their phone on charger? We have three dozen chargers all over the house and yet none of us put their phone on the damn thing.

I plugged my phone in. I plugged Jill’s phone in. I told Tina to plug her phone in, which she went back to her bedroom to both pack and plug her phone in.

Jill went to find Dakota. She wasn’t hard to find as she was on the couch cuddling with one of the CG boys.

“Dakota, where’s your phone?”

“It’s in my bedroom on the charger,” she said.

Jill turned and headed down the hall to Dakota’s room. She unplugged the phone seeing that it was fully charged.

I went back to the bedroom and grabbed my two pieces of luggage and put them by the front door.

Dakota came out of her room and told me the car is on the way and the plane is standing by.

I went back to the kitchen to chat with Amy and John.

Bobby opens his envelope and sees the exact same thing. He starts to object. I see John smiling, he really is beginning to know my game.

“Gentlemen, you’re not done. Not until after breakfast on Sunday. Then you are free to head home. Hopefully, when we return on Friday morning, you’ll have things squared away. Got it Navy?” I bark out.

I shake each of their hands. I give John his ‘man hug’ and kiss Amy and walk away.

Jill has her luggage at the front door. All four of us are ready to leave. Jennifer and Diane cone up and give us a kiss and wish us safe travels. Mark Newberg wished up ‘good luck’, which made me wonder if John had said something, but I dismissed it caring more about getting to the Hamptons.

I see the limo pull up and call out for my traveling partners.

The driver has the trunk open and comes to the door to take our luggage. Fred stops me and asks why I didn’t ask him to drive. “Fred, you’re here as our guest. Go back and enjoy yourself. Don’t worry about this. Thank you for all you have done,” I say before I shake his hand and head to the limo.

I hear the door close behind us as we get into the limo.

We head off to the airport, Dakota tells the driver that we need to head to the private plane part of the airport not the main terminal.

We arrive at the plane whose stairs were extended, and the co-pilot was standing at the base of the stairs waiting for the luggage.

The four of us climbed the stairs and got seated in the plane. The co-pilot brought the luggage and stowed it away. He lifted the stairs and closed the hatch.

As we taxied down the runway towards takeoff, my mind was a million miles away. I looked at Tina and asked myself, what the hell am I supposed to do with her? The plane accelerated and we were in flight.

Being a chauffeur definitely changed my life, for the better.
