The ringing of his cellphone woke Anthony but the sound cut off after only two rings as Risa answered it.
“Hello,” Risa said in a slightly groggy voice.
“Yeah, he’s here just a second,” she said, holding the phone out towards him. She mouthed the word hospital at him as he took it and then got up and headed for the bathroom.
“Hello,” Anthony said into the phone.
“Hi, this is Dr. Carver at the hospital. I am calling to get a ride for Elizabeth Caine she is demanding that we release her from care. Other than the broken bones there is nothing wrong with her so we can’t hold her against her will without permission from her guardian. We have urged her to stay in the hospital where she could be monitored by professionals but she has refused,” Carver said with disapproval in his voice.
“I’ll be right there to pick her up,” Anthony said and hung up after the doctor grunted in reply. Anthony got out of bed as the others began to stir and quickly dressed and used the bathroom. He told Risa, who was showering as he brushed his teeth, where he was going and that he would be back soon. She leaned out of the shower and gave him a quick kiss as he passed. Her wetly glistening skin tempted him to join her in the shower but he controlled the impulse and went to his car instead. Jessica had taken Jenny’s car back to Eternal Night earlier in the morning so his car wasn’t blocked in the driveway. He backed out and headed for the hospital eager to see his sister fully awake so the worries that had been plaguing him since the night of her attack would stop haunting him. Half an hour later he walked in the front entrance of the hospital and immediately recognized the nurse standing by the receptionists desk as the nurse who had been come in when he pressed the call button the previous night. He smiled at her when she looked at him as he passed, and was surprised when she rushed to fall into step with him.
“Hi,” Anthony said when she didn’t immediately begin to speak.
“Hello,” she said and continued to walk beside him but didn’t say anything else. They waited for the elevator and rode up to the third floor were the ICU was located in awkward silence. When the door open Anthony gratefully walked out, his pace so fast the nurse nearly had to jog to keep up with him.
“There might be a little fuss at your sister’s room,” the nurse finally said. She needn’t have bothered since Anthony’s superior hearing could already hear the yelling voices from way down the hallway. One of the voices was Liz, Eliza was another, and then there were two male voices also. Anthony thought he recognized one of the voices from the phone call and assumed one was Dr. Carver but the last voice he couldn’t identify. He walked even faster almost at jog now, he and the nurse had to jog to keep at his side with a worried look pasted on her face.
“I’m leaving,” Liz said.
“You can’t, it is your duty to humanity to let us…,” the unknown voice started.
“Enough Paul,” Dr. Carver said cutting off the other man’s rant.
“Get out of the way,” Eliza said. She was the only one not screaming and Anthony nearly missed the cold menacing words as he hurried down the hall. Dr. Carver was scolding the man named Paul but the man continued to impede Liz and Eliza somehow because Anthony could her Liz growl in frustration. Anthony rounded the corner and finally saw the crowd of nurses who stared with worry at the two arguing doctors. Liz was dressed in a set of purple scrubs that bulged around her casts as she sat in a wheel chair and glared at the doctors in front of her blocking the way so Eliza couldn’t push the chair forward. The nurses saw Anthony coming and parted for him as he headed for Liz and she yelped in surprise as he suddenly lifted her from the chair. She hadn’t noticed his approach as she watched the two doctors who continued to argue still unaware of his presence. Anthony cradled Liz to his chest like a child and his eyes glistened with wetness as relief flowed through him.
“I was so worried,” Anthony whispered pressing his forehead to hers and being careful not to squeeze her or jostle any of her injuries. Liz wrapped her arms around Anthony’s neck, her plaster encased hands scraping his skin, and held him as tears began to fall from her eyes. She shook and shivered as she held him and then she relaxed into the strength of his arms and they tears stopped and her shivering stilled.
“I thought he was going to kill me,” she said looking up into Anthony’s exhausted face.
“I thought he had,” Anthony said in a voice so low no one else in the hallway except Eliza and Liz could have heard it or the pain that filled the word. Anthony took a deep breath and gently lowered Liz back into her wheel chair and turned to the two doctors who were still arguing unaware of his arrival.
“Is there a problem,” Anthony asked, loud enough to cut into the heated debate. Both doctors turned and recognition flashed through Anthony as he got a good look at both of their faces. Dr. Carver was Liz’s doctor so that was pretty much as things should be but the other man was the doctor Anthony had call security to remove from Liz’s room before. Anger began to rise as the pieces fell into place and Anthony realized what the situation was.
“No there is no problem,” Dr. Carver said at once trying to defuse the situation after seeing the hostility on Anthony’s face toward the other man.
“This girl can’t be released,” Paul stated.
“And you are,” Anthony demanded looking at the man.
“Dr. Paul Smithe,” Paul replied.
“Why can’t my sister be released? Dr. Carver said that other than the broken bones she was okay. If it’s only that we can take care of her at home and not pay the hospital to do it for us,” Anthony said.
“It’s not the injuries it is her remarkable rate of healing. She healed in a week what normally takes two if not three weeks to heal. She can’t leave until we run test and find out what makes her heal so fast,” Paul said, eyes gleaming.
“So what you’re saying is you want my sister to stay in a hospital, while the bill for her stay increases, so you can run tests? So you can poke and prod and cause her discomfort and probably pain while she is already injured, so you can play mad scientist,” Anthony asked his voice even and his eyebrow lifted in incredulity.
“If we can find out why she heals so fast we could help millions of people all over the world. It is her duty to her country and humanity to let us try and discover what makes her so unique,” Paul said with a fanatical gleam in his eye.
“No,” Anthony said his voice completely deadpan and his face blank. Paul blinked in surprise and stared for a second in disbelief before opening his mouth to speak but Anthony turned his back to the doctors and motioned Eliza out
toward him. Eliza made it out the door and turned the chair toward the hall leading to the elevators when Paul stepped forward.
“You can’t leave,” he said and his hand reached out as if to grab the wheelchair out of Eliza’s grip. Anthony was suddenly there and the on lookers gasped in shock as Anthony grabbed Paul’s hand and jerked causing him to turn and face Anthony. Anthony swept his feet out from under him with a casual kick while giving him a shove sending him crashing to the ground on his ass.
“Don’t touch my family,” Anthony said and turned his back on the doctor. He followed after Eliza and Liz as they made their way toward the elevators and they all sighed in relief as the doors slid shut with no sign of Paul Smithe. They exited the hospital with no other problems and Anthony carefully maneuvered Liz into the backseat of the car. Eliza hopped in the front passenger seat while Anthony stowed the wheelchair in the trunk and then got behind the wheel. They were out of the parking garage and on the highway before anyone spoke.
“Is everything okay Liz? You aren’t in pain or uncomfortable are you,” Anthony asked and sighed in relief when she shook her head.
“How did our mother get here,” Anthony asked Eliza.
“Wait, Mom’s here,” Liz interrupted before Eliza could speak.
“Yes, she showed up in your room yesterday right before you woke up and spoke to me. Eliza was with her,” Anthony answered.
“I don’t remember waking yesterday or seeing mom. I thought she was dead,” Liz said with a shocked look on her face.
“She didn’t die, she went forward in time to escape the accident that would have killed her,” Eliza said and explained the situation. She told Anthony about what she had built him and how in her concern for him she jumped back to bring his mother forward. She told them everything she had showed Angela, Anthony’s face paled when he found out she had witnessed him taking Liz’s virginity. He pushed back his worry about what his mother would say once they had time to sit down and talk and thought about Eliza’s invention and what uses it could have. Then he thought about what could happen if someone else got their hands on it or if he or someone else changed the past.
“You have to destroy it. I appreciate the effort you put into it and I am happy you saved my mother from the accident but as soon as we get home you need to destroy that machine and never mention it to anyone. Did anyone help you with it,” Anthony demanded.
“The goblins built some of the parts but they don’t know what they were for or how to put them together. Most of the goblins aren’t very scientific but if you tell them in detail how to do a task they are extremely good at carrying out directions,” Eliza replied.
“Good, as soon as we go home destroy it and any plans or notes on it,” Anthony told her and she nodded her face falling a little. Anthony reached out and hugged her to him with one arm as he drove.
“I am sorry you have to destroy your invention but we can’t have something that dangerous sitting around. Aside from bringing my mother forward I can’t think of another use we might have for a time machine, beside now that you understand the process you could do it with magic, so it needs to be destroyed,” Anthony said comforting her. She smiled at him and laid her head on his shoulder and they sat in silence all the way home while Liz was pulled into unconsciousness by the pain pills the doctor had given her. When they arrived Eliza headed into the house leaving the door open so Anthony could carry Liz inside. Liz didn’t even stir as Anthony carefully extracted her from the back seat of the car and carried her toward the house. Angela was waiting at the door with a worried look on her face as he carried Liz into the house.
“How is she,” Angela asked as soon as he kicked the front door closed behind him.
“Okay, the drugs knocked her out almost as soon as we got in the car,” he replied and headed for Liz’s room. He took her in and, with a thought from him, the covers pulled back by themselves and Liz’s clothes vanished from her body to reappear folded on her dresser. Anthony gritted his teeth when he saw the casts, her wrapped ribs, and the yellowing bruises that still remained after a week of rapid healing. Anthony gently laid Liz on the bed and brushed her hair from her forehead before placing a kiss there and pulling the covers up to her chin. He turned a walked out of the room and quietly closed the door behind him and found Angela waiting out in the hall for him. He stared at her unable to think of anything to say as worry over her reactions to everything she knew and overwhelming joy at seeing her standing before him warred inside him. Now that Liz was home and her recovery was guaranteed he was expecting her to lay into him for allowing his relationship with Liz to go the way that it had. Angela stood looking up into Anthony’s face and she tried to reconcile this man with the small child she had wrestled with only days before. His eyes wouldn’t meet hers as he stood there staring at her in silence.
“Anthony…,” Angela began but was interrupted by Eliza.
“It’s done Anthony,” she said as soon as she rounded the corner. Anthony nodded at her in understanding and Eliza realizing she interrupted something backed toward the kitchen.
“Thanks,” Anthony said to her and with a wave she vanished into the kitchen and Anthony turned back to his mother.
“Come on,” Angela said and grabbed him by the arm and pulled him toward her bedroom. She pushed him into the room and followed after before closing the door behind them. Anthony watched her warily expecting her to blow up and start screaming at him any second and Angela watched him watching her.
“Strip,” Angela ordered finally. Anthony blinked in surprise at the order and didn’t move. He had been so sure that she would lay into him that it took nearly a full minute for his mind to process what she had actually said and his eyebrows shot up in confusion.
“You smell like a locker room so strip and get into the tub,” Angela said walking passed Anthony and into the bathroom. He paused for a moment then pulled off his shirt and unbuttoned his pants when he heard the water filling the tub. He left his boxers on and walked into the bathroom and stopped stunned at the sight before him. Angela stood her back to him completely naked her clothes were in a pile on the floor near the door. She was staring into the tub as it rapidly filled with steaming water. She must have sensed his presence because she looked back over her shoulder and when her eyes fell on him she scowled.
“What’s with the underwear? You can’t bath wearing that, take them off,” she demanded and Anthony complied after a moment’s hesitation. His heart was pounding in his chest and he began to stiffen as he stared at the pale expanse of feminine flesh that was his mother. His eyeballs nearly fell out of his head when she bent at the waist and tested the temperature of the water with one delicate hand. She peeked over her shoulder at him as she stood and a knowing smile spread her lips. Anthony flushed a dark red and averted his eyes at having been caught staring. When the tub was full she shut off the water and motioned for Anthony to get in. He got in and she made him slide forward until he was sitting in the middle of the tub. She then got in behind him and grabbed a large plastic cup that sat on the edge of the tub. She scooped up some water and poured it over Anthony hair. Once his hair was completely wet she began to massage shampoo into his hair. He sat passive under her caring hands still waiting for her to speak.
“So you’re married now,” Angela finally said while she continued to massage his scalp.
“Yes,” he answered.
“You’re going to be a father to I hear,” she said and he nodded.
“You had sex with your own sister and you are no longer human,” she said her voice flat and her hands paused. Anthony stiffen and she could feel the muscles under his skin bunch as he tensed to brace for what was coming next and then he nodded in confirmation.
“You’ve killed people and you tried to kill your own father, my husband,” she pressed and felt the muscles tighten into rock hard knots under his skin. He quivered under her palms but he nodded his head in agreement to her accusations. Her hands began to move again and she was once again silent as she cleaned him. She used the cup again to rinse the suds from his hair and then grabbed a bar of soap and began to run it over his skin. Once he had them all up and moving he went into the kitchen and began making omelets and bacon for everyone while they woke up fully and prepared for the day. Once the smell of cooking food wafted back into the house the girls began appearing in the kitchen in various states of undress. Angela dressed in one of Anthony’s long t-shirts, that fell to her knees and kept falling off one side of her small shoulders, was first and was soon followed by Liz who was fully dressed in a pair of jeans and a pink shirt. Soon after the rest of the girls followed most not even out of their pajamas yet. They all sat and ate, once everyone was finished they piled the dishes in the sink and everyone went to get dressed. Anthony slipped on a comfortable pair of jeans and a black t-shirt with a squirrel on the front with white blocky letter over the squirrel’s head asking ‘Got Nuts?’. Angela was standing at the sink drinking from a coffee mug when Anthony came back into the kitchen. Hearing him enter she turned to face him and upon seeing his shirt she laughed, choked, and sprayed coffee from her mouth onto the floor missing Anthony since he was far enough away.
“You okay,” Anthony asked rushing forward to pound on her back. She nodded as she tried to catch her breath all the while shooting glances at his shirt front from the corner of her eye.
“Is that what you’re wearing to meet the leaders of the other races for the first time,” she asked torn between amusement and horror at the thought of him meeting a king or queen dressed like that. Anthony looked down at his shirt then a grin cracked his face as he wondered what reaction he would get from the other leaders.
“Of course, it’s comfortable,” Anthony said pretending not to understand her point.
“But, but you can’t,” she said.
“Why ever not,” Anthony teased.
“You just can’t they are all important people. Kings and queens,” she explained.
“So am I. A king I mean not a queen,” Anthony replied. She opened her mouth unable to come up with a response to that argument and Anthony grinned and kissed her.
“I don’t know who started that tradition of putting on uncomfortable clothing just to look good at an important function but I won’t pander to other people’s views of right and wrong,” he said. Angela was dressed in a pant suit and soft looking loafers and she smelled faintly of roses. The others soon came in and all were dressed in casual business attire like Angela with the exception of Risa. She wore the uniform that they had agreed on for all of the guards would wear. She had a gun in a shoulder holster and looked every inch a bodyguard. Anthony led all of them outside and they piled into his car and the brand new SUV he had bought for Angela a week before. Once the goblin smiths finished fine tuning the cars Eliza had designed, they would all be driving those. Eliza was in the passenger seat next to Anthony and Megan, wolf, and Galina were in the back everyone else was in the SUV with Angela driving.
“So how goes the science mumbo jumbo,” Anthony asked Eliza as they drove. Megan and Galina stopped their conversation in the back to listen to Eliza’s answer.
“Good, the submersible is finished. Using mundane means we couldn’t get it go passed a certain depth, without crumpling like a soda can, so we reinforced the entire thing with magic. The car is finished but the goblins are fine tuning it so there won’t be any issues. We managed to create several fast growing crops of fruits and vegetables that have all of the same qualities and nutrients that their land grown equivalents have. We might have made a break through on aging a vamp but more tests are still need. If you could get some blood from Kira for the tests that would be good. Other than that nothing to report,” Eliza said.
“Good work,” Anthony said grinning at her and she blushed. A few minutes later they pulled into the parking lot of the hotel named The Palace, only a block over from the Eternal Night. Anthony climbed out of the car and headed for the front door with the others tailing behind him. A middle aged woman wearing a suit with the skirt going to just above her knees hurried towards them as soon as they walked in the door. She ran her eyes over the girls and Anthony and taking in his casual clothes she frowned. Her gaze completely skipped over Wind sitting cuddled against his neck and Sunshine sitting openly on Angela’s shoulder, Moonlight was hidden by Megan’s hair.
“We’re all booked up I’m sorry,” she said.
“I know,” Anthony replied with a smile.
“Are you a guest with the Caine party?”
“In a manner of speaking,” he replied.
“What is your name I’ll check the list,” she asked tapping her clipboard.
“Anthony Caine,” the woman started running a finger down the list looking for his name.
“Sorry no Anthony Cai…,” she started then realized what she was saying. Her head snapped up to stare at his grinning face.
“My name probably won’t be on my own guest list,” he said cheerily. She just stood gaping at him until she realized what she was doing and composed herself.
“Have any of the guests arrived yet,” he asked her.
“No sir. Not yet,” she replied and he let out a sigh of relief. The staff had been mind controlled by Jenny before to not notice the weird things that were bound to happen over the next couple days. But Anthony still wanted to be there when fairies and elves and goblins walked by in front of the woman just to be safe. The automatic doors whirred open behind the girls, the sound drawing their attention, they all turned to face the opening doors. A man carrying a bird on his shoulder strolled in. While the bird was unusual what really drew attention was the fact that the large muscled man was dressed in black leather that made him look like a biker if you weren’t paying attention. The leather clothes were actually leather armor, masterfully crafted to look like clothing to the unwary eye. He was followed by a small figure in a small trench coat with a hood so deep nothing could’ve been seen through the shadows of the hood. The man strolled up to the woman with the clip board as if he owned the place.
“Name,” she asked him politely.
“Rorik,” the man rumbled his voice like thunder in the distance. The woman flipped back a couple pages and began running her finger down the list.
“Sorry, I don’t see your name on the list,” she said apologetically looking up at him. The big man thought for a moment before speaking again.
“Check under Queen Lilac as personal guard,” the man rumbled. The woman flipped a few pages not batting an eye at the term Queen or the robed figure. She ran her finger down the page then stopped and tapped it against a name.
“Hear you are, let me get your key and I’ll be right back,” she said to the man and gave him a pleasant smile then turned and headed towards the front desk.
“Lilac,” Galina said stepping toward the enshrouded figure then paused when the big man took a step to insert himself between the two of them.
“Can I take this thing off,” Galina asked looking to Anthony. She gestured to the ring on her finger that was disguising her as a human child. The ring made her look like a blonde curly haired normal thirteen year old girl. Mina had made it using realistic illusions so that if someone bumped her they would feel the body that was supposed to be there and not her real one.
“Sure, the building has been spelled so no one not supposed to know what is going on in hear won’t see anything they aren’t supposed to. Also with a memory charm for any human who isn’t cleared to be here, that will erase their memory when they leave the building,” Anthony said. Galina sighed with relief and pulled the ring off and stretched as if she had just slipped out of an uncomfortable outfit.
“Lilac,” Galina said again and the small figure reached up and lowered her hood. The goblin queen looked like Galina with only a few differences. The most obvious difference was the hair color, where Galina’s was fire engine red, Lilac’s was a darker almost burgundy color. Her chin was more pointed and her fangs were longer poking from between her lips slightly, while Galina’s were completely hidden. Other than those differences from what Anthony could see the two could be identical.
“Galina,” Lilac said in acknowledgement and ran her yellow eyes over the rest of them. Her eye ran over Anthony and moved on before they flicked back to his shirt in a second glance and she looked up into his eyes with an eyebrow raised. He just grinned at her and shrugged his shoulders. It was then that the woman came back and walked up to Rorik not even noticing that Galina now had green skin and pointed ears.
“Here you are Mr. Rorik. You are in room four-zero-one it is the first room on the fourth floor to the right after exiting the elevator. My name is Amanda; if you need anything call the front desk. If they can’t help you they
will put you through to me,” she told him he nodded and turned to Lilac.
“We will go get settled, we’ll have to talked later,” Lillac said to Galina, who nodded, and then they headed for the elevators.
“Mr. Caine, we have you and your party set up in the penthouse. That entire floor is yours so you will have space,” Amanda said with a smile and held out a key card for him to take.
“Liz and Eliza could you go to the pool and welcome any of our guests that are confined to water who appear there,” Anthony asked them.
“Sure,” Liz said with and with a kiss from each they headed off.
“I’ll go setup in the security office,” Risa said headed toward the door saying security behind the front desk.
“Megan, take wolf and Moonlight with you up to the pent house and get us settled in,” he told her and handed her the key card.
“Okay,” she exclaimed and threw her arms around his neck and kissed him exuberantly.
“Kylie and Galina with me here in the lobby. Mom could you go with Megan and keep an eye on her,” He asked Angela who nodded and gave him a hug and a peck on the cheek before hurrying to catch up.
“Cassie, Dililah, and Linda please go check the meeting room and on the refreshments for tomorrow. Double check everything please,” he pleaded.
“Sure thing husband,” Linda said and led the others out of the lobby leaving just the three he had named plus the two other fairies. The door opened and he turned toward it to welcome new guests…
Six hours later the stream of new comers had died down to almost nothing. No one new had arrived in over an hour and he was just about to go up to his room when the whoosh of the door opening drew his attention. A small smile split his face as he recognized the two figures entering with several burly men behind them. one was the teen he had rescued from the renegade Weres in Brazil and the other was the woman from the rebel camp with the ice colored eyes. Seeing them standing together like that he realized they must be mother and daughter or some other close relation. When they walked through the door and saw him they paused and stared at him in surprise. The guards bristled and began to move forward thinking that there was danger. Before they could take more than a step the girls shot forward like a bullet at Anthony. He barely managed to retain his feet as she plowed into his chest and his arms automatically went around her as hers encircle him. The guards’ teeth pulled back and inhuman growls issued from their throats when they saw her in his arms.
“Down puppies or I’ll get my newspaper,” Anthony said and let power flow into his eyes making them flare briefly. The woman raised a placating hand toward the guards and they calmed but kept shooting Anthony hostile glares.
“I didn’t think I would ever see you again,” the girl said into his chest.
“Don’t worry, I was pretty sure that some of you would be coming to this meeting considering my plans,” he told her.
“Your plans,” she asked and pulled back to look at him.
“Anthony Caine only High Lord of the Djinn, Goblin King, and Elven Prince at your service,” he said and brought her hand to his mouth and kissed the back of it. Her face flushed but the sunglasses she was wearing hid most of her expression from him.
“I didn’t get to thank you properly last time for saving us and for the dagger,” she said stepping back and pulling the dagger out from a sheath at the small of her back.
“How are you going to repay me exactly,” Anthony asked and eyed the knife he had created for her. He was remembering the last time she held one to his throat and had nicked him with it.
“What do you want,” she asked.
“World peace,” he shot back flippantly.
“That’s a little beyond my means. What do you want that I could give you,” the girl asked rewording her question.
“How about you take off the shades, tell me your name and I want a kiss,” he replied.
“I’m Anya,” she said and pulled off the glasses. Shock shot through him like a bolt of lightning but even through that he saw her tense as she moved towards him. When she caught Anthony watching her she blanked her face but he had already seen her display of softer emotions.
“If you talk to Amanda, there, she will give you directions to your room. The main meeting will take place tomorrow at noon and if you need anything form me personally I’ll be on the top floor, in the penthouse,” he told them and motioned towards Amanda. They walked passed, the guards still eyeing Anthony with suspicion when the lobby doors opened again. Anthony started to turn toward the door to welcome the newcomer but Anya who was already facing the doors paled and reached behind her back and yanked out her dagger.
“You,” she screamed with rage and rushed the door. Her guards were right behind her as Anthony completed his turn he saw a group of four Weres just inside the door. Two had drawn guns and were pointing them at the other charging Weres.

Anthony walked over to Anya and stood in front of her looking at her disapprovingly but the wild look he saw in her eye gave him pause. “Drop it,” he ordered. She looked at him belligerently but finally she sighed and finally dropped the dagger. Anthony snatched it out of the air and stepped forward reaching around her and sliding it back into it’s sheath.
“How do you know these people,” he asked her. She swallowed as her eyes flickered back to the other Weres and hatred flared in her eyes.
“He is the leader of those Weres you saved us from,” she said and Anthony followed her gaze to a non-descript man. The only thing odd about this were to set him apart from the others was that he wasn’t screaming or struggling in his bonds like the others.
“I see,” Anthony said and turned back to look into Anya’s eyes, holding her gaze.
“Did that guy or any of these men hurt you,” he asked her softly. Her eyes fell and she wouldn’t meet his eyes but the pain and shame on her face said it all. He leaned close to her ear and whisper so low to was barely more then an exhaling of breath.
“I have given all who come to this gathering safe passage, and I will keep the peace. However after this gathering is over and they depart I will skin him for you and bring you his hide, you have my word,” he said and pulled back so she could see his face. She looked into his eyes and saw his sincerity and nodded in agreement and he loosed her from her bounds. The men behind him Weres still yelling and demanding to let go but Anya turned and walked to her mother with the guards following warily never taking their eyes from the other Weres. Once Anya’s group was into the elevator and it closed behind them Anthony turned to the other Weres.
“Shut the fuck up,” he snarled at them and his eyes flared with his suppressed anger. Silence fell over the group as he stared at them with a fiery hate.
“Is this all your word is good for? Will you strike us down, when we have done no harm,” the non-descript leader asked.
“No harm,” Kylie began but Anthony place a hand on her shoulder to quiet her. She was practically vibrating with rage and she shot an enraged glare at him then turned her back and slammed into the stairwell to head up to their rooms.
“You have the same safe passage for this meeting that everyone else has,” Anthony replied and the man smiled smugly.
“I will keep the peace for this gathering. You and all of your people will not go near the other Weres you understand? If I see or find out any one of your some much as spoke to Anya without her speaking to you first I’ll have you confined to your rooms until the gathering is over,” Anthony said. Rage filled the man’s eyes but he kept his face neutral and nodded his understanding. Anthony loosed his hold on them all and stepped back to allow them to pass and get their keys and directions from Amanda. When they piled into the elevator and pulled out his cell phone and called Risa.
“What was that about,” she asked him as soon as she answered the phone.
“Some of the Weres from Brazil we missed, one of them is their leader,” Anthony said in explanation after realizing she must have watched events unfold on the security cameras.
“Watch them no matter what they do or were they go. If they go near Anya tell me,” he told her.
“Sure, who is Anya,” she asked. Anthony barked out a laugh and told her about Anya and Anya’s mother since he still didn’t know her mother’s name.
“I’ll make sure security keeps a watch on them at all times,” she assured him.
“Well, I’ll see you in the room. Tomorrow all the fun really starts,” he said and shot one last look around the lobby. Wind’s wings fluttered in her sleep and her position on his shoulder caused them to tickle the side if his neck. He almost reached up to brush at the feeling before he remembered she was there; he listened intently for a moment and could her soft feminine snoring. He shook his head at the oddness of his life and chuckled to himself.
“What is it,” Galina asked startling him. This was the first time she had spoken since the last goblin queen had showed up. All six of the remaining goblin queens had appeared, cloaked the same way Lilac had been. Galina had greeted each along with Anthony and each had departed swiftly for their own rooms.
“I was just thinking about how weird my life became so quickly. I went from a geeky loser to a king and husband to so many beautiful women and soon to be father. Not to mention that I just spent the day welcoming just about every mythical creature I have ever heard of and a few I haven’t to a gathering. A gathering I called to tell them about the imminent revealing of their existence to human kind which will almost certainly bring war,” he explained.
“You did well today, I was impressed with how you handled everything,” she said and rubbed a hand on his back to comfort him. He relaxed unto her soothing touch and just stood and lost himself in the feel of her hand in contact
